Raining season :(

I'm not sure how to start this, but it was all fine thise days. Nowadays, whenever it rains, my car feel slugish and sometime it misfired. It felt like it was running on 3 cylinder when the car hit some water. I'm still investigating on which parts are reacting to the water splash. Some of my suspects are:-

1. The map sensor on the induction hose where itbis expose to the water from the hood.

2. The O2 sensor at the exhaust where it is damn near to any water on the road.

3. The fuse box that will be wey whenever the rain was strong. Water coming in from the hole on a mugen hood.

However, this problem only happen recently, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the fusebox or the map sensor. Gonna jack the car and see what's happening down there :(

Another problem caused by the rain was the OEM horn was flooded with the flowing water when i parked my car on the road side in KL one day. The horn sounded like shit and i decided to replace it with Hella (couldn't afford the expensive PIAA). The sound is good and i love honking at people now :)

Type R gearing issue

K20 is one of the best engine in its class. However, there is a common problem with the transmission especially on the synchro system. I had twice experience my transmission gone wild, the first gear stuck with the system.

The symptoms were:-
1. Engine vibrating like hell
2. Rattling sound from the bay
3. The vibration and sound will go away when the clutch is being press, and will continue when you release the clutch.

So the overhaul process began where I found that the 1st gear was stuck with the shaft. There was supposed to be free play where the gear could spin during idling. However, there was no gear teeth that was hurt or even any scratch could be seen at the hardware.

Solution? Pump out the gear and assemble back eveeyrhing accordingly. It work find during the first time. Until a few months later, it happen again.

So, another process began. I went to another shop to get second opinion. The tuner suspected that I was not using he proper gear oil. It was the Redline (blue gel) oil and Kaaz LSD oil when the tragedy happent.

Me myself suspected the water coming in through the breather hole on top of the gearbox.

Depo Projector

Depo is not new in aftermarket headlamp industry. Depo Auto Parts Ind Co Ltd is a Taiwan based / registered company and has been operating since 1977. The company had brought smiles on thousands of car enthusiast in either restoring their old car or even customising their new ride. Plus, the Depo version of headlamp are much more cheaper than the OEM.

A week before Muslim celebrate Aidilfitri, I had myself a very good deal. When the package arrive, there it was smiling at me as the new owner. Althought it is a pair of used headlamp, I can say it was in 90% perfect. The facelift headlamp for EP3 from Depo made my day.

I've spent almost 1 week researching on the net (especially in EPHatch) looking on how to retrofit the new headlamp with the JDM HID, but fail to complete it myself. So, I settled with xenon non-hid bulb, but it only took me 1 day to change it to HID due to the xenon was not doing me any favour during night drive.

Since the cost for a pair of new HID set is way cheaper than 3 years back, I grab my self a pair of 6000k HID which is just nice for me..

However, it is not easy to put in back the headlamp perfectly to the car. It took me almost an hour to just get it in properly and I'm sure it could be better. I'm sending to the shop to settle this for me.

So, to others who are shining the dark road with a pair of Depo, have fun and smile!

Product Review

During my last service, I've decided to try 2 products that were told could give really good performance.

REVO - ADVANCED ENGINE TREATMENT & FRICTION REDUCER

Purpose : Engine treatment to reduce the friction.

It is claimed that it could gain more hp, reduce the noise level and better acceleration.

Price : RM45/bottle

Verdict : In terms of hp, I don't think I'm in the right position to talk about it. The correct way to test it is to test it on dyno machine before and after the usage of REVO oil. As for the noise level, yeah there is a slight different. It was not noticeable if you don't record and compare it before and after. The acceleration I must admit, slight improvement or maybe just my mind telling me so.

FORGED - SUPER SERIES RADIATOR COOLANT

Purpose : Reduce water temperature

It is claimed that it could reduce & maintain the water temperature.

Price : RM35/bottle

Verdict : I've recorded the temperature based on the temperature indicator on my dashboard. There was no huge (I would say nothing) different in terms of running temperature. However, after hard revving in town on the hot day, the temperature maintain nicely. It is worth a try.

General Service

My EP3 is a weekend car. It only runs on the weekend. Sometimes, I would start the engine for 5 to 10 minutes on the weekdays if I don't drive it on the weekend. I would say the mileage is rather low for a 9years car. So far, it only recorded 80,000 km on the mileage. Last time I had my general service was in April (so far as I could remember).

Last weekend, I had to go for a quite long distance trip (almost 150km) on Sunday night. I took the opportunity to run in the new clutch set that was installed 2 weeks before. The shop recommended to run in for 200km but some other friends advised me to go for at least 400km. To be on the safe side, I did 400km before making any aggressive revving. The 150km trip completed the running in requirement and I had a few VTEC screaming session on the way back. Everything seems fine and the clutch was good. The 'bell' sound it made every time I pressed on the clutch made me smile. :)

Btw, it was an Ogura Super Single clutch set that was installed. Total damage? RM3150 for installation and new gear oil. It was installed in JC Racing, Bandar Sunway. My original clutch ran for 80,000 km and had left for about 30%. The last time I checked the clutch was when I overhauled the gearbox (refer to previous post) and I could see that the original clutch was coming to its end.

The gear oil was actually changed recently and haven't reach 20,000km but the condition was bad. So I decided to try the infamous Kaaz LSD transmission oil. I was running on Honda original LSD oil before and I would say that the original Honda has better feel when you changed the gear. No offense to anyone, but this is through my own experienced.

After reaching Sunway from Seremban, I went to the regular place for the other Type R members, Rock Cafe to meet my uncle who was just arrived from Perlis. After the hang out session, I tried my car on the road when I noticed my vtec was not engaged. The Vtec sound was totally disappeared and it felt lean and loss power. I refer to all my Type R friends and they suggested that maybe the solenoid had spoiled. It had me worried the whole night. The track day is just for another week. I've check the oil level, it was just nice on the middle.

So, the next day, I head to the workshop to get it fixed. But, before checking the solenoid, I changed the engine oil which I suspected was overdue (I forgotten to record the previous service mileage) and was long enough in the engine. Surprisingly, the VTEC was back. The engine oil was so dirty.

I had a friend with similar driving style and similar symptom where he gained back his Vtec after changing the engine oil.

So, moral of the story. Please don't overdue your maintenance service! Have a good day.

After many reading and research, I found out that 2.5inch of piping diameter is the most suitable for mild setup.
One day, I went to my friend's place to change the original exhaust to 2.5inch stainless steel all the way to the muffler.

I could literally feel a bit different in the lower end as well.
But, Hondata need to be retuned again. :(

HONDATAFIED- as defined by Adlan.

At last, I managed to get myself the world renown management system for Honda, the HONDATA KPRO.
Installation was easy, just plug and play and straight away can start the car. Unlike Haltech, which I used before in my 4G63, it requires rewiring and harness modification to fit the engine.

Total damage:
Hondata Kpro (used) : RM3000
Tuning and dyno : RM500

The dyno result?
Car still producing 203whp but definitely felt different on the lower end.
Torque increased from 19.49 to 20.69
Vtec engaged at 5500rpm.

Overall, I still satisfied with the Hondata.

Looking forward to future mod to gain more hp :)

Hey guys,
As I promised in my previous post, here are the dyno charts for my EP3.
Both were dynoed at GT Auto, Bandar Sunway.

First DYNO

Setup :
Exhaust - Decat with custom 2.3" muffler without centre box.
Management - Piggy back VAFC II + RSM
Intake - J's Racing CF Airbox with custom cold air intake
Engine oil - Torco 10W40

Second DYNO

Setup :
Exhaust - Decat with custom 2.5" muffler with Mugen centre box.
Management - Piggy back VAFC II + RSM
Intake - Apexi open pod + heatshield
Engine oil - Q8 oil semi synthetic

There were not much different comparing both dyno charts as both were tuned using the VAFC II. Many had suggested to switch to Hondata Kpro as it would maximise the true potential from the K series.

Hondata Kpro installed and yet to be tuned. Stay tuned for the update :)

First of all, thank you to all that have been following this small blog.

I didn't expect to have this much of visitors and supports from car enthusiasts.

So what's up?

Since my last post (about my stolen Gilera), there are not much update on my car. It is not that I abandon her or what but being a guy living in the city with petrol price increasing from time to time, I had no choice but to travel most of the time using the cheapest transportation available- scooter! My average expenses to drive to work on daily basis would be around RM200 monthly for the petrol, toll and car park while it only cost me around RM50 a week to travel on a scooter. So, most of the time, my car is sleeping inside the garage, being driven once a week on the weekend :) .But still, my passion for this lovely creature of Honda will never fade. Every now and then when I got the chance to browse the internet for anything related to EP3, I will do it. I just got myself a brand new Vespa LX150 as a replacement to my lost Gilera Runner 200VXR as my main transportation. It is not as fast as the 4stroke Gilera, but it is a chick magnet I would say :)

After a few weeks traveling on the scooter and almost forgetting the beast sleeping inside the cage, 1 day I took my EP3 for a ride. It was like a junkie given a bag of pot, I enjoyed every moment of Vtec kicking in. So, there was 1 weekend where I suddenly felt like giving it another fine tune after quite some time with different setup it was running on the same map. I went to GT Auto in Bandar Sunway to fine tune the VAFC II. I know I wouldn't gain much hp running on this piggyback but, what the hell. It cost me RM300 tu tune and dyno it and it was done by Toby, one of the tuner there. Based on the setup, Toby could only set my Vtec point at 6,400 rpm to maximise the power. I gain 2whp compared to the last dyno.

Toby suggested to change the piggyback as many would agree that VAFC doesn't work well with K series. It could not maximise the potential lies within the iVtec as it would on B series. So, I promised myself to get a Hondata Kpro one day.

Until one day.....

A friend of mine was selling his EP3 and need to get rid of his Kpro and swap with OEM ecu before he could sell it off. It was the right thing to do when he called me and made me a very great offer! I couldn't stop smiling as I was gonna be a Kpro user soon. So, we met and we swap! (THANK YOU LAN)

However, after the swap, I have been busy with work and my cycling activities that I don't have the chance to re-tune the Kpro as it is running on Lan's map. The Kpro was tuned for a car that regularly go off to the track and not for daily driven car. So, I would drive much of my EP3 until it is tuned.

That is all I think that I could update and share with you guys. I 'll upload the dyno result when I have the chance to do so since I don't have any scanner at home.

Slotted disk!

Slotted disk increase the surface area of the disk which result in faster heat reduction.
We could see all those track car always use the slotted disk as they brake heavily during the race.

This is what I always dream of. Takata Greaen TE37 with Spoon monoblock caliper with slotted disk.

I always envy to look at people with huge braking system, nice caliper with slotted disk.
So, with very little amount of money to be spent monthly, I only managed to get my original disk slotted without changing it. It cost around RM250 to do it for all (4) disk.

Taking out the rims and caliper. Ready to remove the disk. The disk come with 2 screws unlike other cars.

The front disk. I like those lines :)

The rear disk have to be done like this due to smaller size.

Hello everybody,
It's been a while since my last post. Been really busy with work plus poor internet connection.

I guess it is still not too late to wish everybody Happy New Year.
My early 2011 have been really expensive. :(
I seldom drive my car to work to avoid the high expenses and it only runs on the weekend. So, who would expect that it will cause more problems.

The first was my battery. One day when I was about to start it in the morning, guess what? It won't. The battery had been totally out. Maybe it's time to get new one. There goes my RM200.

After another week sitting inside the garage, one day the gearbox started to give problem. Urrggghhhh....
It was out of nothing. The first gear won't engage and it created very loud sound during Neutral gear.

That is roughly my new year...what a luck....

The video below shows you when it first started to make funny sound.....

My gear box condition after about 80k on the mileage. The inside was full of the clutch dust. Clutch was left around 40%. Maybe for another 30,000km.
The gear oil was really dark when it was supposed to be blue (using Redline Blue Gel). Something ust be wrong.

As you can see inside the red circle, that is the gearbox breather. It supposed to come with an 'umbrella' cover to protect from water or dirt coming into the gearbox. I would say that most of us have lost this. You can see some blue oil coming out from that hole. This is one of the reason my gear had gone wild!

Taking off everything to check inside of the 'damaged' gearbox. Thanks to my housemate, Yus. I saved thousands from buying another set of gearbox where he could fix it in just 2days.

Look inside! Most of the inside parts had become very dark. this could be from the mixture of oil and water. It smells like it was on high temperature. The final drive bearing was also making some noise.

The gear in the circle could not move at all. It was jammed. After everything were dis-ambled, the first gear was out of its track.
Luckily it did not damage the thread of the gear.

I am happy today to collect back my car from the workshop. Thanks to all who had helped me during this problem..... Hope other can benefit from my experience. Try to protect the breather hole from water and dirt.

Hello everyone.
I am very excited to share this with everyone.
Thanks to Zaza especially for helping me with the shipping.
After quite some time waiting for the shipment of the carbon stuff, finally 1 morning I received a call from Zaza.
2 boxes with big 'SEIBON' on it arrived which caused me to smile all day long.
My CF hood, front grill and spoiler arrived in good condition.

So did the Union Jack emblem which arrived the same day.
That afternoon, I took my time off to send it to the body shop to install everything.
However, I have to spend another RM150 to buy the 'TYPE R' emblem which was stolen before.

My Friday Activities!

It was perhaps my most productive Friday this month :)

8.00 am
I woke up early to meet up with Rizal, another EP3 owner for breakfast before going to fix my Energy Mount Insert. We had our breakfast at one of the 'mamak' in Sunway and discussed mostly about life and EP3. Rizal just bought his EP3 not long ago where he contacted me for some question regarding EP3. He got my number from the net. Thanks to him for the lovely breakfast :)

10.00 am
We headed to Hyper Racing as I already made appointment with John to install the mount insert. However that morning, the upper pulley stated to make funny noise. I know I'm gonna prepare extra money for that. I had John check it and found out that bearing spoiled and the belt was almost coming to its life end. So, to avoid more expenses in the future I decided to replace the bearing and the belt as well. The belt tensioner was also a little bit shaking but John suggested me to use it first .

When John took out my mounting, guess what we found? A dead big spider inside the mount.. It was funny at that time :)

12.15 pm
Kenny (another EP3 owner) just arrived from Penang and met me at Hyper Racing. He was also sending his car for bearing and belt replacement. He 'kidnapped' me for lunch with Harry from G.Harry Racing Team. He has a very nice and powerful track ready EP3. Thanks to him for the lunch and nice dyno session with his EP3.

2.00 pm
Collect my car at Hyper Racing. I could literally feel the vibration caused by the mount insert. This is the sacrifice for motorsports :( After that, went to hang out with Harry and Kenny at Power Qube until around 4.

6.00 pm
I headed to Sunway Rock Cafe to meet up more EP3 owners. After 5 minutes at the place, Azrai arrived with his nice EP3 and 10 minutes later, Kenny came after collecting his car. We had fun knowing each other, sharing our experience and knowledge about our common passion, EP3. Thanks to Azrai for the drink that day :) . Around 7.00 pm, another EP3 owner arrived from Shah Alam, Razeef.

8.00 pm
After a long talk and sharing moment, we headed to Esso Sunway for the photo session. Razeef had to go to Damansara to do something and left only 3 of us , me, Kenny and Azrai. We took some photo and call it a day. We all had fun and wish to have more EP3 meet in the future :)

Energy Mount Insert

Many of my K20 friends suggested me to get myself the motor mount insert instead of changing the whole set of Polyurethane Mounting which could lead to huge vibration. Plus it will cost me a lot. There was knocking sound problem last time where the shop had temporarily reduce the sound by injecting silicone into the side engine mount. It was good for only several weeks where the sound came back even more annoying. Since the famous Energy Motor Mount Insert cost only around $30, I proceed with the purchase. Tomorrow I'm gonna send my car to Hyper Racing to get it done.

Plus, there is rattling sound from the upper pulley today. John had inspected the pulley and saw that the belt had already come to its end... We'll see tomorrow :(

It's been almost half a year since my car has been polished. The colour is becoming yellowish and looks ugly on certain places. Living in a place where they don't have cover for your car with rain for almost everyday, you really need to spend some time cleaning it.

Yesterday I got the chance to send it for polishing, YAY!

Now my EP3 is restored back to its original colour with some dented (I don't know how it got there).
I will try to get covered parking after this !! FTW!

Sorry for the disappearing from the scene for awhile. I've been busy with my final exam and work stuff. I've graduated finally! Yay! After graduation, I was called up to help my friend with his company. So didn't have much time for motorsport.

Here are some update on my ride and some new knowledge I've gained!

1. New exhaust setup -
Last time I was running on the 2.3inch Apex'i N1 with internal silencer decat with no center bullet. Now I'm running on 2.5inch Trust (replica) muffler with Mugen centre bullet (original from Japan). I could literally feel the different on the high end with more back pressure with this new setup. Plus the sound is now more bassy :)

2. New intake setup -
The previous intake that I've posted had some disadvantages. First, it sucked all the hot air from the header and engine. Thus reducing responds during hot day. It also sucked some of the splash water since our EP3 doesn't come with splash guard. I had to be really careful when going over any water to avoid it from getting into the intake.
NEW INTAKE setup - nothing much different actually. Same filter, same pipe but has been welded to different angle to avoid the water and hot air. Plus I made new hole for the breather hose. I manage to get original Apexi heat shield to go with the Apexi filter :)

3. FOG Light!
Remember when I promised to post up the DIY of my fog light installation? Well, something went wrong. I only realised that USDM bumper and JDM bumper are slightly different especially on the middle part. So, the fog light that I've ordered from the States does not really 100% fit into my bumper. Some modification (cutting and burning) had to be done to both bumper and fog light holder. It took me almost 1 whole day to finish it up and the result wasn't so good.
I think due to the modification of the holder, the angle of the fog light are not as correct as it supposed to be. The fog lights are facing downward too much and didn't help much when you are driving. Anyway, it looks nice and yellowish at night (trying to make myself happy).

4. Kevlar cover!
Say bye bye to my kevlar cover.. I had to let you go since I need money to support not only you(EP3) but myself :( Now using back the OEM cover.

5. TYPE R EMBLEM

5. I have a new ride - 200cc Gilera Runner VXR
It really come in handy especially when you lived in a crowded city. I could really feel the advantages of running on scooter during the peek hour compared to stranded in the traffic.

Internet is always good for you to dig out information especially on your interest. My interest is always EP3. So after surfing and reading lots of EP3 related web, I found myself with EPHatch.com

This is an American based forum where most of them drive USDM EP3. However, there are some who drives JDM EP3. The thing that I like with this forum is that they have friendly administrator and forumers that are willing to help you in any of your problem. The have experience and knowledge about EP3 that will help you in the future.

Lighting :(

Many of us who drive EP3 will notice that the headlight just not giving enough light that we need during our night cruise.I hate poor visibility! I had even compared my headlight with other cars like Toyota Estima, Perodua Myvi and I was so disappointed with mine. The headlight issue was my first impression when I bought the car and drive it at night.

Personally, the reasons would be:
1. The OEM HID is not as power as those aftermarket
2. White light is always bad during raining or foggy road.
3. The headlight was not properly adjusted.
4. No fog light provided by Honda.
5. The headlight cover had became yellowish, thus reducing the visibility

There are few options to satisfy me with my needs :)
1. Polish the headlight - DONE
2. Install OEM fog light - On the way :)
3. Change HID - still considering, I want to keep the JDM look inside my bay!

The OEM design fog light could be easily purchased from eBay. There are hundreds of seller offering it at different level of prices depending on the quality. Most of it will come either in Yellow colour or just a clear colour. 1 good thing about all this OEM kit is that it comes with complete harness and even the switch.

Thanks to MugenReplica (member of EPHATCH.com) for introducing me to their forum. It is a nice platform where most people have 1 thing in common, HONDA EP. I had most of my problems settled by members of the forums with their experience and view on EP3.

One of their official vendor is SHOWSTOPPERUSA, one of the big car performance product supplier in the USA. I was really hooked up with their list of carbon fiber parts listing as it is very rare and hard to get those stuffs in my country!

After a few friendly emails with the owner CHUCK, I decided to get myself some of the parts for my car. However, those parts are not cheap to ship, it cost more than the product itself. Luckily I have friend coming back from Wisconsin, USA next month. WOOHOOO free shipping within USA! I know I have to get something for her to help me bring back the lovely parts! :) (THANK U ZAZA)

I've ordered 1 CF HOOD, 1 CF MUGEN front grill, 1 CF MUGEN wing & 1 Union Jack emblem! There was a few options on the CF hood and i decided to go with the XT model at first because of the cool design and cooling system. However, the company has run out of stock and I go for the MUGEN design at last!

So now, I will be receiving 3 MUGEN parts for my car!

Hye everybody, It's been awhile since I update this blog.

I have been busy with college, assignment and other personal stuff lately.

So, less time spent for motorsports :(

I have few updates on my ride.

1. New intake system

2. New dash panel colour

3. New tint

The new intake system

After sometime I've been reading from the net and asking mech about intake system for NA, I've decided to go for open pod again ( I had open pod system from Blistz before).

This was before, using J's Racing CF airbox.

This airbox will deliver u colder air from the engine since the design was build to reduce heat and suck the air from the front of your bumper. However, it will reduce the vtec kicking sound.

Now, this is my current setup. Using back the red silicone induction hose with Apexi filter at the end

I dont know about others but I could really feels more power gain and louder sound from the intake. I choose Apexi filter over Blistz or HKS or even K&N because of the design and level of filteration. It has been proven by Japanese that Apexi is the best air filter manufacturer.Plus, it is way cheaper compared to HKS.

New Dash Panel Colour

I had some free time when I spent it by trying out the carbon fibre sticker onto my dashboard panel. However, it was my fault when I bought the imitation (non-3M) sticker. It would not stick properly especially on the every edge. So then I decided to go for black colour. I've bought 1 can of flat black spray and try to do it myself. The result was sucks! I spoilt my own panel and had to spend to another shop to re-paint it. It cost me another RM80 :(

My dream muffler is always the J's racing or the Famous Toda dolphin style muffler.
However, it would cost me $$$ to get one of those.
So I decided to get my current muffler Apexi N1 to become the Toda style.

Cost ? Less than RM100
Buy a 45degree steel elbow and weld it to the current muffler.

Thank you Wai Heng Exhaust Specialist for ruining my day and my car.
I understand with cheap fees comes cheap workmanship but this?
This is so much, how come u consider your shop as exhaust specialist if u deliver this kind of workmanship. Here how the story goes....

I just bought a used Mugen centrebox from my friend and decided that this this small job could be done anywhere with welding equipment. So I went to WaiHeng since it was the nearest shop to go at that time.

I intended just to cut the original piping and replace it with the Mugen box but the person there insisted that I changed the piping from centrebox to muffler as well. Ok, since u're the specialist, go on!

After waiting for a while and watching how they were doing, I felt a bit confused with myself, why did I ever come to this shop.

The pipe was bended using the bending machine but the work done was like ^&*(.
The pipe didn't look like a pipe at all. I was pretty sure that the exhaust flow aill be F^&ked up!.

I was planning to re-do the piping at another shop sometimes next week but just that night after WaiHeng, I realised that the 'super-knowledge' specialist didn't weld one of the joint. It caused the muffler to went up a bit on the tip and touch my bumper.

The result? My bumper now got a new hole. It is very hard to get replacement of this bumper in Malaysia...

Anyway, it was partly my fault for sending my car there at the first place....... :(

Clatronic Head Unit

The OEM JDM head unit is the main issue for those buying JDM cars.
The radio frequency could only go to 89.9 where in Malaysia, most of the radio station have frequency above that range. For example the top 3 radio station; FLY.fm (95.8) , Hitz.fm (92.9) and Era (103.3). If u still insist on using the JDM radio, u need to install additional booster to get those frequency where it might not give the same result. So , I decided to go for more 'friendly' head unit and I came accross this Germany brand, Clatronic. It was introduced by one of my friend who is using it in his BMW E36. It does look nice and cool with some features that really cool. So after a few days of doing internet survey, I was convinced to go for this brand rather than China Made head unit that come with way more functions yet cheaper. There was complains where the China made radio could last for few months before becoming junk due to unstable software and quality.

This is model AR773 where it does not come with GPS system yet.
The latest model (AR80) would provide u with GPS system ready :)

Track ready EP3

Yesterday (Friday 30th April 2010) I went to my friend's workshop and found an amazing EP3 that was build totally for track. The car was not build for power as the engine is almost stock but the reliability was the main concern.

This is the spec that I found on the car:

Engine : Stock with few items removed!

Management : Hondata Kpro with Mugen interface LCD monitor

Brake : Integra DC5 Brembo front set

Fueling : Custom fuel tank with racing specs fueling system

Interior : Custom roll-cage with a lot carbon fiber parts

Others : (I don't know what they call it) An air jack system where it could jack the whole car by just inserting air compressor through the special adapter. :)

The new era of technology allow us to visits every part of the world through one click. This is what I'll be doing everyday with my computers. Having much interest in the Vtec world especially Honda Civic Type R EP3, I always type the word EP3 in any search engine that I came cross. Last week while sitting in front of my laptops waiting for my friends, I was searching in the internet what could I possibly buy for my incoming birthday. Searching and browsing does not mean that I'm gonna buy it because money is my main issue. So I came across some items that I would consider as very rare for EP3.

No1 of my list is the FULLY TITANIUM front strut bar that would make my engine bay one of a kind! This strut bar is manufactured by DC SPORTS would cost me around RM2400 excluding shipping and tax! How I wish money is not an issue!

No 2 of my list would be the 'very hard to find' OEM spec carbon fiber side mirror!

Most of the carbon fiber side mirror found in the market would either just casing or manual (no wiring) or even come with the small mirror. This side mirror by ShowStopperUSA have all the elements that OEM side mirror have like the motorize controller, the exact same design and size and even 100% plug and play without any modification into an EP! It would cost around USD$359 excluding shipping and tax for me to show off to other EP owners' in this country!

No3 of my list would be all the carbon fiber part for EP3 that very difficult to get from the market like the dashboard panel, the boot cover (I found it in Ebay long time ago) and fully carbon fiber interior (dashboard, door panel and all other panels). However, I don't have any picture of these items but swear to God, I've seen some of them in the net long time ago!

A sad news to car enthusiasts especially those driving Golf GTI, AUDI and Volvo where 1 of the shop in Sunway was burnt down due to some technical faulty.

My condolence goes to the owner Tg Azman and all the workers there (most of them are my friends). Not forgetting the customers who had their car repaired there during the fire (1 Golf GTI, 1 Volvo & 1 AUDI if not mistaken)

I heard that the owner had setup a temporary workshop in Sunway Area as well (near Recaro).

Hope that everything could be settled as soon as possible for the love of MOTORSPORTS!

SFS induction hose!

SFS may not be as famous and as commercial as SAMCO here but in the land of EP3 origins, SFS is the thing!

The K series enthusiast might know this brand where it is supplied together with GruppeM induction kit (usually in blue colour).

SFS produced many silicone hoses which came in variety of colours for many top car make in the world.

So far, this is the only brand which produced OEM size of induction hose for K20 (EP3, DC5 & etc) that I could found in the market.

Anyway, after my OEM induction hose (black rubber) had torn out, I decided to get me one from SFS with cost of RM300++ including shipping from UK.

The RIMS project!

I was approached by someone to change my rims to aftermarket Japanese legendary rims like TE37 or CE28.

I always dream of it every night and day to get myself one of those lightweight and eye catching rims.

However, as an unemployed student and still depending on my monthly allowance from my mom, it will be almost impossible to spend RM5k to RM9k for rims and tires.

So, I came out with another solution of having new rims, CHANGE THE COLOUR!

I've decided to change it to metal gun colour. I sent it to one of the rims shop in Sunway and it cost me RM60 per rim.

Then, with new rims, come new lug nuts. To buy the original RAYS lug nuts is like to change a pair of tires, I decided to go for local lug nuts that looks alike :P

You could shop from all over the world in just one place without needing to go to different shop or site.

I'm starting to like eBay after my first transaction of buying Carbon Kevlar Cover for my EP3.

You could go under eBay-Motor and search for products you like according to makes, your cars, brands and many more.

Plus, it is considered safe shopping through eBay using Paypal.

Recently, I found myself a very hard stuffs to find in Malaysia; red colour silicone hoses.

It were the SFS induction hose and radiator hose.

The SFS induction hose usually came with GruppeM induction kit. It would cost a fortune for people like me to buy the whole set.

The radiator hoses are also in red colour where I could only found Samco blue colour over here in Malaysia.

So, here we go again, another spending which caused me to only eat instant noodle for the month.

As at the time, I already received the radiator hoses but need to return it as the seller accidentally sent different set which could not fit into K20A. :(

I also found out that taking out the radiator in EP3 is 10 times harder than taking out radiator in other cars.

Black headlamp and Cold-Air-Intake

Last weekend I got some free time to spend with my EP3, so I decided to go for some detailing and mod.

My car was hit a month ago by a lady and only last week that I managed to send it for touch up.

While the shop was doing the work (knocking and painting), I took out the head lamp.

Then, as many of car enthusiasts love, I blackened the headlamp.

I love the result (although I didn't do it myself).

Then, I proceed to the second project of the day, installing the cold-air-intake. This intake helps the engine to get the cooler air from outside instead of breathing the hot air inside the engine bay. Total cost was RM50 for the intake and funnel.
The performance was slightly (maybe mentally) better but u could really feel it during the hot day. :P

After having problem with torn intake hose, I recently found out that I've been driving with a highly dangerous tires.

The front tire had been 'sliced' up by some sharp stuff!

All other tires had badly 'makan sebelah' due to bad alignment and chamber setting.

So, once again, I need to cut down my monthly expenses to cover for this.

Total cost was RM1140 for 4 tires, wheel balancing, alignment, chamber setting, caster setting and the steel tire tube. :)

After spending sometime waxing my car, I decided to take a look under the hood.

What a surprise when I found out that my intake hose had already torn!

I think I just solved the mystery 'air sound' when high revving the engine.

The engine must had sucked down 'dirty' air that didn't go through the filter.

It also mean that I need to spend more money :(

Does anyone know if the is aftermarket silicone hose for this?

It was a lovely Friday afternoon as I reached home.

I just got back my Canon 450D from the service center.

Suddenly I got this mood of detailing my car.

After a few times in workshop, the car has been 'contaminate' with engine oil and other dirt. So, I started my waxing project!

Tony Shagday - SKUNK2

My class has started so I got more time to spend in SUNWAY!

Chill at Pulse development after class watching them installing Skunk2 intake manifold on a Mitsubishi Evo 6.

Suddenly I saw 1 guy with camera taking photos of the car. It was Tony Shagday!

He is from Skunk2 USA. What a surprise! I was a bit nervous to talk to him when he saw my car with Skunk2 stickers all over.

He was here just visiting his relatives in Singapore and took the chance to comedown to see how's Skunk2 doing in Malaysia.

He took few photos of my car after we had some interesting conversation!

Good news for EP3 owners, Skunk2 gonna release racing header for EP3 soon!

Anyway, he told me that he will be back on the weekend to watch MUSC Drag Challenge in Cyberjaya.

So, it's an opportunity to meet the pioneer and legendary 'All Motor' class race driver from Skunk2.

I was so excited that i forgotten to take photo of us .. hahaha

Wednesday, 5.30pm

Came out from office to meet my Liana at Yellow Cab Pizza.

Had a good time eating pizza there, and tapau some for my mom (she's in hospital for knee surgery). Anyway, Liana did not work that day because she had her Final Exam.

Hairi (cousin) was also there. Then he went to KL (to meet so called friend)!

Wednesday 6.10pm

I was talking to Liana as we were waiting for the engine to warm up. The traffic was busy like usual. It would take me almost one and a half hour to reach Subang from there but that day, we were going to hospital.

Wednesday 6.15pm

I was heading to Jalan Tun Razak when suddenly a silver Honda Civic make an emergency left turn right in front of my car. The rear rim hit my bumper. I was stunned. It was the first time I ever encountered an accident in my life.

We parked on the road side ( exactly in front of Dang Wangi Police Station ) to check out our car. My car had a bad scratch and the fender was dented. Her car was not affected since she hit me by her rim.

Here are the conversation:

Me : Oh why did u do that? U hit my car.

The lady : (still talking on the phone)

Me : (waiting for her to finish conversation)

The lady :(checking her car and then look at my car)

The lady : Oh, nothing serious, this black marked could be polished away.

Me: What? Can't u see that my fender is dented and 'kemek'? My bumper also almost fall. How come u say this one could be polished.

The lady : Hmm, maybe this one can be settled, After all, it's between Honda and Honda.

Me: Honda and Honda? SO? Ok lah, I need to go to hospital right now and we're making scene right here. Why dont we just go to the police station and settle it there. It just in front there. So i could claim on your insurance.

The lady: Hmm I'm from Insurance company and have my own workshop. Why don't we go there? No need to go to police lah, it's not worth it. Anyway, how about RM100? It's more than enough right?

Me : What? Dont be funny, We'll talk about this later. I'm rushing. How do i contact u?

The lady : Here is my card. Anything u just call me. U go repair first and claim it on me. Dont Worry. My office in Shah Alam. I know it's my fault.

Me : Ok.

The next day, I had to take half day from work to settle this matter. After all, most of the workshop going to close for one week for Chinese New Year. The workshop quoted me RM450 to repair everything. It's not cheap, I know. This is not some local paint.

I called the lady and told her about the price. She freaked out and tell me to wait at the workshop. She said she was coming there with her mechanic. So me and my cousin waited at some restaurant. We finished our lunch when she called me telling me to come to Shah Alam. I told her that I dont want to go to any stranger workshop who claimed they could do it for a very cheap price. She kind of agreed with that price. She requested for my account number.She promised to transfer the money before 3.30pm.

Around 4.00pm I haven't receive any money. My mom contacted her and have no respond. My mom told me to go make police report if she still not paying until 4.15pm.

Around 4.30pm, she sms my mom saying that her mechanic advised her that my price was too much and just go to police station. My mom was kinda upset because it could be much easier if she agreed to report the day before.

I headed to Dang Wangi Police Station to make report. When I almost reach there, she called me asking not to go to the police. She have no time. She insisted for me to go to Shah Alam and let her mechanic do it for RM100. I told her that it's impossible for me to let that happen and I'm going to the police now.

Suddenly she begged me to reduce the price. I told her that it was not me who quoted the price. Then I told her to settled it with my mom.

Around 5 something, she transferred the money. I hope that I will not encounter this type of person again.

Campro Open Pod Project!

My cousin Hairi decided to have his second mod to his Satria Neo after changing his rims.

It was to change the drop in system to open pod air filter.

Instead of using stainless steel piping , he decided to go for aluminium.

He bought the aluminium 90deg elbow and a Blizt open pod filter.

The result? More power in the lower rpm but a bit reduced in the top.

This might happen due to the car still running on stock piping which is very small and the cat converter.

I maintained my weight at 55kg for a few years until I finished my SPM in 2003. Living in boarding school, the food was just okay. After coming out to the world, I found another heaven. Some of the best are Nasi Beriani, Nasi Kandar, Nasi Ayam, Mee Udang, and many more. Last week, I decided to spend my money on foods rather than buying more accessories into my car.

This is my recommendation:

1. Yellow Cab Taxi Pizza

I've been working almost 2months in Sheraton Imperial and I had to pass by a small yellow-ish shop before the lrt station.

Yesterday, I decided to try for it since I found the flyers by the road of that restaurant.

IT WAS SUPERB!!! Now I know my favorite pizza . No more Pizza Hut, no more Dominos & no more Canadian Pizza (sorry :| )

2. FATTY CRAB, Kelana Jaya

Botak wanted to eat crab, So we teman him to go there. I was never wanted to try those but after tasting the crab, I'm going there again, SOON!!
Total was RM105.00 including tax :) Thanks to Botak for our lovely dinner.
3kati of big crabs, nasi goreng for everyone, and 4 drinks. It was really worth it!

Nothing much happening today except that I have to take half day from work to go to college to collect my EPF letter.

Since there will be no parking when I arrive in KL later, I might as well take the LRT and save parking and toll cost.

I need to get the old sticky double sided tape on my bumper removed so that I can install the plate cover.

I've already installed the rear one last night but could finish it due to the sticky tape.

The weather in KL is unpredictable. Someday u could be facing heavy rain in the morning or someday it will be so hot.

This phenomenon could directly affecting the exterior of our beloved car.

The heavy rain brings down acid and somewhat oil to our car.

It was proven! After 1 week not washing the car, it was kinda hard to get rid of the sticky oil. Plus, my car is white colour and it became more obvious if u take a close look.

Sorry don't have a good picture to show before and after the waxing.

I thing I could said here is that I'm totally satisfied with the result!

The paint looks new again :)

Jimmy did a good job on my car.

I also ask Jimmy to re-furbished my headlamp since it was getting more yellow-ish. This is very common on any head lamp.

Sorry picture did no justice to this. :(

But if u see it in front of u , u could really see the different!

It was worth spending rather than buying a new head lamp :)

If u would want to try , u could go to Jimmy (Bandar Sunway) exactly behind GT Auto and beside Millennium Motorsport.

EuroR CL7

The Type R Honda Accord or also well known as EuroR is another member of TypeR family that uses K20A engine.

Last weekend, I sent my car for waxing in Sunway (Jimy - behind GT Auto) and there were another 2 Type R. 1 was an EuroR and another 1 was FD2R.

It was nice looking at 3 generation of Type R being wax in the same shop :)

However, when I was looking at the engine bay, I found out that Euro R has a slightly different system. What I meant was on the intake system.

Even thought it is using the same engine as EP3 (K20A), the intake manifold and intake flow is totally different. The intake design is more likely similar to after market intake produced by Skunk2. The airbox is also not placed near the firewall like EP3, DC5 and FD2 but on the side where the battery usually is.

After doing some 'Google-ling', I found a photo showing the different between EuroR and EP3 throttle bodies.

I remembered last time I went for my engine tuning in GT Auto, Thomas said that some of the Type R users would go for EuroR original intake manifold because it has better flow. After looking with my own eyes, I do believe on the statement! With the help of EuroR intake & bigger throttle body, you could gain more hp in your other Type R. :)

P/S: I love the rear lamp of CL7 :) Hope can own 1 someday! Suitable for family use and performance feels.

Took almost 1 hour to finish it.

Dyno Session 2010

It was raining as I waited for my turn to dyno.

I really don't mind waiting becoz it is kinda hard for me to get the chance to dyno my car since I have very limited time I could spend in Sunway.

Around 8.45pm after waiting for 2 Caldinas tuning their e-Manage, I finally in!

The workers did a really good job in preparing my car for dyno.

It didn't took much runs to complete the dyno. It was just VAFC, not the complicated Haltech or Hondata. Plus, not much modification has been made, only the intake and the exhaust system.

After 15-20minutes of dyno, we're done!

Managed to achieved 201.67whp for NA!

I'm kinda happy with the result.:)

Haih, tomorrow gonna be another week of working :(

Not much time for my car.

I spent almost everyday to take care of my car before i started working but now, only once a week, the happy Saturday.

However, u can't do everything in just 1 day.

I need time to re-tune the car.

Thinking of dyno-tune at Millennium Motorsport

Hopefully one of these day I would be able to reach Sunway before 6 to get it done.....

Weekend project!!

After a few days of no Vtec sound, I've decided to take it to the next level, take out the center box. All this while, the Vtec sound came from the open pod intake, not the exhaust system. Using the J's racing airbox had reduced the sound completely :(

Plus, the original center box was kinda big, thus reducing the sound a lot!

Once again, call Botak for help!

Took out the center box and replace with 2.0inch steel.

Total cost RM50. :)

The result : Terrifying !!!

The sound is now way louder than before, even louder than my previous Satria turbo..

The Vtec point could be clearly heard..

Another problem arised, too loud....

So, next project should be getting another center box (small one) to reduce the sound a little bit :)

Carbon Fibre Airbox

I was excited to get back from office to take the Carbon Fiber air box!

After I took it from John (Hyper Racing), went straight to Pulse Development to see Botak.
He helped me installing the box.
It was easy since all the bracket and hose were nicely fitted and 'ngam-ngam'!
Didn't take much photo coz it was already dark and all I have was the Iphone camera :(

The result? Much better air suction compared to the old open pod system! No lagging between gear, you could really feel it. However, it became less noisy and u can barely hear the Vtec sound :(
So, next project is to take out the centre box to make the exhaust system louder to enjoy the VTEC kicking in!

9th January 2009
It was a lovely Sunday
Started my day watching cartoons at TV3 when Kenny SMSed me.
He was in Sunway, chilling at PowerQube (Chris's shop).
I went there to meet him and lepak.
Suddenly there was some idea on changing our seats. I was using the original EP3 RECARO seats while he was using the Carbon Kevlar Bride seats. We discussed and agreed on changing the seats without any money. We only pay for the workmanship done to swap the seats :)
I'll post the photo later!

During that evening, I went to Hyper Racing (John's) to meet Prasath, a DC5 owner who is selling his carbon fibre J's Racing airbox. He agreed to hold it for me until end of this month. It was DAMN nice :) Can't wait to have enough money to get it from him!

At night, me and my GF (LIANA) went out hanging out with my cousin and friends. We met some of long lost friends like Mazhar, Linda, Tania and few more. It was a good night!

On Sunday, the whole family including Makngah's family went to an Arabic restaurant in Jalan Damai , KL. The place and food was really amazing! I almost burst my stomach :p
Then we headed to Ampang Park for karaoke session :)

This is one of the best weekend ever! I had to chill with car enthusiasts, with old friends, and with whole family + GF :)

The traffic was clear and you can cruise with happy face!
BUT, after arriving in Penang, I realized something when washing the car!

This happen because of the flying small stone on the highway! So be careful if u love ur paint job!

Exhaust system!

Exhaust system...
Choosing the best exhaust system for your car is not an easy task!
There are many exhaust designed with different specs and prices.
Some of the big players like Toda, Feels Racing and J’s Racing had also their own design of exhaust system for Honda EP3. Out of these 3 players, TODA had conquered the K-series market with the unique design of muffler tip.
However, big name does not come with low price!
A full system of Toda exhaust system (excluding the exhaust extractor) would cost around RM3800 in Malaysia. The exhaust extractor or the header would cost another RM3kto RM4k.

Another tips, the exhaust size does vary with the engine setup to get the best performance. The myth of ‘the bigger the exhaust, the better’ are totally wrong!

Choosing the right engine breather

The air breather is a vital part for all engine especially on NA.
There are many performance and after market air filter available for you to choose.
How do we know that we had chosen the right one?
As for most automatic transmission car, it would be the best by simply maintaining the original airbox but upgrading the filter element. You can get a good filter element from K&N or many more manufacturer.

How about for manual transmission?
Most people believed they will increase more hp by taking out the original box and make it open pod. This is true in a way but in some cases, it would reduce your power!
Why? It is because the position of the filter itself. Maybe it was placed on a position with hot air. So the engine will breathe with hot air! Remember , hot air is bad! We need cool air! That's why many had invented cool air intake, airbox, intercooler and many more product to help getting cool air!

As for K20, there are few options on choosing the air induction.
1. Open pod with heat shield ( as I'm using right now )
2. Drop in with Mugen/J's Racing/GruppeM box
3. Open pod with Cold Air Intake (CAI)

Personally, I would go for option 2 due to cleaner air and cooler air.
Option 1 does not give such cool air compared to the other options.
Option 3 required several modification to place the CAI.
However, the trick is, option 2 required much $$$$ than the others.
You can Google Mugen , J's Racing or GruppeM airbox and don't be surprised for the price!

1st Service...a Major one!

Last week, 30th of December 2009, after so many long distance trips, this is my first time servicing this car. The engine felt slightly heavier since the oil had already got thicker. So, after a few days of internet survey, I went to some workshop in Sunway to get those products needed for this major service.

Product purchased :
1.Engine Oil (Torco TR1 5W40 - 100% synthetic)
RM60 x 5L = RM300

So, as Thursday as the last day of 2009, I took the day off and went to service my car at PulseDevelopment workshop in Sunway
Servicing Cost :
1. Oil filter (Honda-genuine) = RM23
2.Skimming diskbrake RM30 x 2 =RM60
3. Labour = RM30
4. Engine wash with chemical =RM free :)

So total cost for this major service = RM973
I have no regret in spending that much for I have better feel of driving. The braking system is better with no more shaking at high speed. The engine rev is smoother with this new engine oil. Gear shifting is also better and smoother.

December 2009. It was my first month working in Grant Thornton (audit firm) and I was requested to help them with 1 client in Penang. The ealier plan was to drive on the weekend to Penang to attend Afida & Matbom wedding but since they need me to be there by Tuesday, I drove my EP3 instead of taking bus. I couldn't claim for it since there is no receipt of bus ticket but managed to get some allowance. :)
Even though tired of working during the day, I managed to get out at night to do some 'compulsory' activities like hanging out with other Honda drivers, eat at the best Nasi Kandar and eat at other marvelous places! Enjoy the photos!

Chilling with Kenny (EP3 driver with cool mod!) and his buddy (nice yellow Ek) at McD (Juru Autocity). The McD was crowded even it was 1am in the morning on Tuesday night!

Chilling with SYuk (Nice Spoon Jazz) and his buddy (another monster Jazz) at TomYam Bukit Mertajam.

The best prawn mee ever! This place is called Pulau Aman situated in Penang. U have to take a 15minutes rides of small 'sampan' to go the. The mee is charged at flat rate of RM3.50 with huge prawn. It would cost us RM15-30 in KL to get such. :)

Another restaurant that is compulsory for me to go when ever I go Penang! Machang Bubuk restaurant. The specialty there are Mee Soup, Fried Mee, Pasembor, Laiciking!

During the weekend, visited Uda's sprayshop in Bukit Mertajam. Asked him to re-paint my disk caliper to gold colour!. The job was marvelous and kind of cheap!

Penang was the bomb! Every single time I went there, I'll be smiling but worrying at the same time because of my weight. A minimum of 3kg will be gained on each visit...AARRRRGGGHHHH........

My EP3 is now in black & white version
The front bonnet, the roof and the rear boot had been painted to 2K black paint!
Most of the bumper and fender had been painted to the original Type R white colour due to many scratches. All the painting work were done by Ken Min ( Ban San Autowork USJ1)
Total cost was only RM1.2K for such marvelous job.
I bought Rain-X to help me see during raining and it work really well :)

Skunk2 had produced several products for K-series engine like :

I would like to get those products but really on tight budget right now. Slowly keeping money to get me all those listed for my EP3!
